Reasons for Heat Transfer Fluid Coking

  1. Big heat flow intensity and low flow velocity will increase fluid film temperature, causing coking.

  2. Operation temperature is higher than fluid film temperature will cause fluid degradation and coking.

  3. Mixing with materials from system leakage will cause oxidation and polymerization reactions, which will lead to fluid coking. Besides, new system and system maintenance impurities will also trigger pipeline coking.

Heat transfer fluid coking will decrease heating system heat transfer coefficient, increase system energy consumption and exhaust gas temperature, and even block pipeline inducing fire hazard and explosion.

Precautions of Fluid Coking

  1. Choosing high quality heat transfer fluid with good thermal stability is the precondition against fluid coking.

  2. Fluid in pipeline should always be in turbulence state. Flow velocity in radiation and convection sections and pressure difference of inlet and outlet should be strictly controlled in allowable range.

  3. System operators and managers should be trained to avoid fluid over-heating operation.

  4. Avoid air, moisture and other impurities into system.

  5. Enhance system pipeline inspection and pay attention to filter pressure drop. Clean and replace filter element in time to guarantee filtering effect.
